This opportunity is great in combination with any of our other volunteer opportunities. Since our founding in 1983, thousands of individual volunteers have been fundamental to Habitat Charlotte Region’s impact in the community. We welcome everyone, with or without experience, to volunteer in construction, ReStores and other areas. At the Charlotte Region ReStores and Julia’s Café & Books, we have many opportunities for individuals or groups, including cashier, sales floor, merchandise processing and more!
A look inside the Habitat ReStore shopping experience
To donate materials, contact your local Habitat ReStore. Most ReStores will include a variety of new and used building materials, appliances and furniture. Many stores have inventory that expands beyond these three categories.

Are you experienced in construction or would like to learn more in depth? Weekday crew members choose one day per week as their regular volunteer day. An affordable home provides a strong foundation to create personal wealth, improve school performance and enhance a family’s future.
Volunteer at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore
We can also provide you with a hard copy receipt upon request. Legally, Habitat cannot appraise your donation(s), so all donors must fill out an estimated value for their donation(s) on the receipt. Please keep in mind that you are required by law to fill out IRS Form 8283 for any donation you value at $500 or more. Any donation with a total value of $5,000 or more must also be professionally appraised. Partner Families are partners with us throughout the whole process from contributing sweat equity hours helping to build their home to making their monthly mortgage payment. Housing costs in Charlotte have outpaced wage growth, making it challenging for many working individuals and families to find affordable places to live.
Instead, our ReStores sell them at low-cost to the public. The ReStores generate a valuable revenue stream that enables Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Los Angeles area to build more decent, affordable housing for hard-working, low-income families. Your donation not only helps support the construction of Habitat homes, it also helps reduce the costs of home-improvement for other homeowners in the LA community.
As one of the fastest-growing cities in America, Charlotte has seen a surge in population, causing housing prices to rise significantly. Except for the three-year COVID hiatus, it has been HabitatInternational’s most high-profile event every year since. You don’t have to swing a hammer to make a difference! Habitat Charlotte Region has many volunteer opportunities available through the Charlotte Region ReStores. As part of their willingness to partner, Habitat’s homebuyers invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners.

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are proudly owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. Proceeds are used to build homes and improve communities locally and around the world. Material donations are not used in Habitat-built homes.
Spend your time getting to know customers, staff, and homeowners-in-process and feel good knowing the work you do is building strength and stability through shelter. Volunteering at Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a way to support your community. Contact your local Habitat ReStore to see what opportunities are available. There are hundreds of ReStore locations – and they’re all open to the public. Unfortunately, we currently do not have the resources to repair or touch up items, which is why we can only accept lightly used donations that are in good, working condition. Habitat partners with the City of Charlotte as an advocate for affordable housing and on numerous housing projects, the most recent of which is The Meadows at Plato Price development. For its work the city collaborates with nonprofits, housing developers, and community partners using The Housing Charlotte Framework. The Framework’s goal is to expand access to opportunity through housing investments using funds from the City’s Housing Trust Fund. Your financial gift makes homeownership a reality for families in need of decent, affordable housing right here in the Charlotte Region.
Check out your local ReStore to see what they have in store for you today. Your local Habitat ReStore likely accepts a wide variety of new and gently used home building materials. Habitat for Humanity® International is a tax-exempt 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization. But more than that, all proceeds from ReStore sales support Habitat for Humanity’s mission to make sure everyone in the world has a decent place to live.
